Parent Resources

Here in Career Development, it is our top priority to give your student the tools and resources to find meaningful internships, graduate school experiences, and ultimately employment after graduation from MCLA.  Below you will find general information about our internships program, approach to graduate school preparation, and on-campus recruitment.  We encourage you to contact us at any time for questions.

First Year Curriculum

During their first year, your students will be exposed to a rigorous career-planning curriculum.  Students will engage in self-discovery, via the O*NET Interest Profiler  O*Net provides students with a blueprint for the future.  It matches them with a three letter code that helps them learn who they are as an individual and what career paths might be best for them.

Students will put what they learned from O*Net and their own priorities to work by establishing S.M.A.R.T. Goals.  S.M.A.R.T. stands for:

  • Specific;
  • Measurable;
  • Achievable;
  • Realistic;
  • Time-Bound.

It is our goal to empower your students to create a path by which they can engage in personal and career development by way of leadership opportunities and engagement with the Career Development Office at MCLA.  We believe that goal setting and follow-through are critical to success in early and on-going professional development.

Career Development will be engaging with your student throughout their first year through a series of workshops, one on one coaching appointments, and more.

Internships

Our internship process is a holistic one.  Students are guided through locating right internship and are prepared to apply and follow through by Career Development.  Another component to this process is faculty sponsorship.  Each student intern is required to have a faculty sponsor who will ensure the student's best possible internship experience and will encourage and will evaluate positive learning outcomes from their experience.

Our students have recently found great success at:

Graduate School

We put great value in the graduate school experience at MCLA.  Many of our students are interested in advanced degrees in law, medicine, business, and other fields.

The MCLA Career Center sponsors a grad school prep resource library.  We house the latest practice materials from Kaplan Inc. for the:

  • GMAT;
  • GRE;
  • LSAT;
  • MCAT.

Students can use these materials to prepare for their exams right in the Career Development Center.  A career coach will always be available to help with personal statements, mock interviews, and other related topics.

On-campus Employer Recruitment

Each year, MCLA hosts a variety of programs to connect our students directly with employers.  Most notably, over the past year, we have hosted a fall career fair a our spring "Career Kick Start."  This year we have hosted over 70 employers on campus, with the intention of serving students of all majors and interests.  Selected employers include:
