The English/Communications major offers you a broad background in literature, language, and media through foundation courses as well as the opportunity for specialized study in:

Why MCLA is Different

Our major emphasizes hands-on experience that you can gain in a wide variety of academic and professional settings including the college radio station (WJJW), the television and video studio (MCLA TV) and AVID editing suite, an analogue/digital production lab for film studies, the award winning student newspaper (The Beacon), and our student literary magazine (Spires).

Student internship opportunities reflect the wide range of interests among our students including:

Serving a local writers' collaborative 

Working in area schools, art institutions, and with a local book publisher   

 If you want to pursue a secondary major in education and  licensure to teach, this program provides the strong foundation you need.

In addition, you can join two national organizations: The National Broadcast Society and the international English honor society, Sigma Tau Delta. You may also compete for several awards and scholarships in the field, and can attend and participate in both on and off campus conferences, workshops, readings, and performances.If you want to pursue a secondary major in education and licensure to teach, this program provides the strong foundation you need.

 

Tuition reduction for residents of ME, NY, or RI
Broadcast Media students who reside in these states are eligible to receive a tuition reduction of $8,500.
