The Philosophy Major

Required Courses

  • Either A First Course in Philosophy (PHIL 100) or History of Ideas (PHIL 101) or equivalent course with a Philosophy instructor
  • Either Logic (PHIL 200) or Philosophy of Science (PHIL 310) or equivalent course with a Philosophy instructor
  • History of Philosophy I: Ancient and Medieval (PHIL 240)
  • History of Philosophy II: Renaissance to the Present (PHIL 242)
  • Ethics (PHIL 320) or Contemporary Moral Issues (PHIL 350)
  • Five Philosophy electives above the 100 level, planned with the departmental advisor

 

The Philosophy Minor

The Philosophy minor lets you gain knowledge of main philosophical issues that you can fruitfully combine with subject areas in other departments, including your major. You must obtain a total of 18 credit hours in Philosophy.

  • 9 additional credits from the Philosophy Department curriculum, depending on your major and primary interests
