Focus on Diversity

Students On Bench

We all have so much we can learn from one another — our experiences, our cultures, our approaches to life. MCLA recognizes how much each of us is enriched, enlightened, and strengthened when we share our stories, and when we listen to stories different from our own.

Valuing diversity and multiculturalism is an integral part of the MCLA mission. As an agent of social change, MCLA is committed to helping achieve respect, acceptance, and justice for everyone. Here are some of the more tangible ways you can explore diversity and personal growth at MCLA:

Multicultural Education Resource Center - This center works with the entire campus to build community, celebrate diversity and inclusion, and foster student success. The ALANA Club Council, Executive Boards, and office student assistants all have extended office hours in the Center. We encourage students, faculty, and staff to share their experiences, expertise, and vision for how we empower all students to reach their potential.

Susan B. Anthony Women's Center - Founded in honor of local women's rights activist Susan B. Anthony, the center provides support and education around women's issues on campus and connects with the Women's Studies minor as appropriate.

The Identity and Gender Equality Resource Center (IGE) works to develop and cultivate a LGBTQIA+ friendly and knowledgeable community not just at MCLA but also throughout the greater Northern Berkshire Community. Through elevating safe spaces and educational programming, the Center strives to increase awareness and knowledge of issues in the LGBTQIA+ community pertaining to gender, sexual and romantic identities. This is coupled with knowledge of how these identities change and are significant to a variety of different cultures in hopes to develop a more understanding and safe community for people of all identities.
