How to Apply for Financial Aid
FAFSA Steps & Deadlines
Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and list MCLA using federal school code 002187. Submit it as early as possible
and check the current financial aid calendar for the applicable priority date. A new
FAFSA is required for each academic year in which you want to be considered for federal
aid.
Filing the FAFSA is the single highest-value hour you'll spend on your college application. It's what unlocks nearly every kind of aid that is available.
Step 1: Create your FSA ID
You create an account, and if a parent is contributing to your FAFSA, they create their own separate one. Each person needs their own. Do this before starting the form, because account setup can take time to verify.
Step 2: Complete the FAFSA
List MCLA as a recipient using the school code 002817. Submit the FAFSA even if you haven't yet been admitted, because aid eligibility is determined alongside admission.
Step 3: Send us anything we ask for
Some students are selected for verification. If selected, the Office of Student Financial Services will tell you which documents are required. Respond promptly so your aid offer can be finalized.
Step 4: Review your offer
Your offer lists each award and its type. Grants and scholarships don't require repayment. Work-study is earned as wages, while loans must be repaid with interest.
Step 5: Accept or decline each award
Accept or decline each award individually through your portal. You may accept a partial loan amount rather than the full offer.
