The Radiologic Technology program provides a comprehensive curriculum that combines didactic coursework   with laboratory and clinical experiences.  The curriculum is structured as a 4-year plan: the first 2 years consist of pre-requisite general education (Core curriculum) courses and the final 2 years consist of professional education course work. Upon successful completion of all 4 years, students earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiologic Technology.

Students who meet all American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) requirements will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination. The program is accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JCERT).

ADMISSION TO THE RADIOLOGIC TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM

Prospective students must first be accepted for admission to MCLA before being considered for the Radiologic Technology Program. To be admitted into the professional education courses, applicants must have completed all program prerequisite courses with a minimum grade point average of 2.85 (on a 4.0 scale). In addition to meeting academic requirements, applicants must meet all ARRT certification and ethics requirements and be capable of fulfilling the essential functions of a radiologic technologist.

The program utilizes a cohort model and accepts a limited number of students each year. The radiology cohort only starts each fall semester. MCLA, in collaboration with clinical affiliates, reserves the right to determine the number of students enrolled in each entering class. Total enrollment cannot exceed the maximum number established by JCERT. Admission decisions for the professional education and clinical courses are made in Spring of the prior to the Fall start date.

MCLA does not discriminate in admission or access to, or treatment or employment in, its educational programs and activities on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, age, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, genetic information, marital or parental status, or veteran status.

  • Overall GPA of 2.85 or higher
  • BIOL 150: Introduction to Biology I: Cells C+ or higher
  • BIOL 342: Anatomy and Physiology I C+ or higher
  • BIOL 343: Anatomy and Physiology II C+  or higher
  • HLTH 110: Introduction to Healthcare C+ or higher
  • HLTH 105: Medical Terminology C+ or higher

Admission Point System

A point system is used to determine admission to professional courses in the junior year. Points are awarded based on the following:

  • Overall gpa
  • Grade in Precalculus
  • Grade in Anatomy and Physiology I
  • Grade in Introduction to healthcare
  • Number of courses taken at MCLA towards the degree

Higher points are given for higher grades earned. Students are ranked and selected for admission based on their total points.

Additional Requirements

Prior to beginning the professional radiology coursework, all admitted students must submit

  • Criminal background check
  • Required immunization records
  • Documentation of CPR certification at the health profession level.

Students also need reliable transportation to travel to and from clinical education placements, which may be up to 75 miles away.  Students are responsible for any fuel or travel expenses incurred.

Academic Progression

Students admitted to the program must earn a grade of C + or better in all professional coursework (RADT courses) to progress through the program Exceptions to these requirements are the Computed Tomography or Mammography courses that require a minimum grade of C.
